This is a great way to celebrate some of our legendary members who have made outstanding contributions to pro football, said former Colts president Bill Polian, chairman of the hall’s board of trustees. It was created to recognize individuals whose contributions were instrumental in pro football but may not be recognized as Hall of Famers themselves.

Both Gibbs and Browne are being honored for their roles in developing offensive lines. They’re highly competitive and extremely smart about what they do.

The two other recipients of awards will be chosen each year by a selection committee composed of Hall of Famers, media members, and representatives from each of the league’s 32 teams. Three finalists will be selected for each award category and presented to voters before Super Bowl 50 in San Francisco next February.
