Now that she’s no longer an original cast member on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, NeNe Leakes is ready to settle the score with Bravo and Andy Cohen. According to Entertainment Tonight.
NeNe recently filed a lawsuit against the popular network and the executive producer in hopes of getting out of her contract early so she can join another program. Here’s what we know about the suit thus far and what it could mean for everyone involved moving forward.
NeNe Leakes has filed a lawsuit against Bravo and Andy Cohen over her firing from The Real Housewives of Atlanta after she got into an altercation with another cast member on-camera. NeNe.
claims that she was not only fired unfairly but has asked for damages, including lost wages and profits from using her image to promote Season 8 of RHOA, which took place without her.
This isn’t so much about whether or not NeNe’s behavior was justified or what caused Bravo to part ways with its star; it’s about legal issues at play here. At present, we don’t know exactly why NeNe was fired from RHOA, which makes writing about it difficult.
From a legal standpoint, though, one interesting thing to note is that Leakes is claiming in her suit that Bravo owns all rights in perpetuity regarding footage shot during the production of RHOA. While some may take issue with a claim like that, it’s important to remember that reality TV shows are staged and created by producers.
If you agree to appear on television as part of any show — especially if you’re doing something like filming yourself having dinner at home — you’re essentially giving up rights over how your likeness can be used later.
Numerous court cases around celebrities have sued tabloids for taking images captured during events such as red carpet premieres or weddings (which aren’t considered private) and publishing them without permission.
You’ll also notice that Leakes’ lawsuit states that Bravo had no reason to fire Plaintiff [Leakes] because she was never warned before being terminated. That seems odd given that other reports suggest Leakes was fired before getting into a physical altercation with Porsha Williams.
NeNe Leakes Lawsuit Against Bravo And Andy Cohen Details Revealed
Real Housewives of Atlanta star NeNe Leakes is taking her former network and host Andy Cohen to court. As part of her lawsuit, she is seeking money above 5 million dollars. The actress claims that after she appeared in seasons one through five, producers began editing episodes to make her look bad at best and unstable at worst. This case will be heard by Judge Terrinee Gundy according to reports.
Leakes reportedly believes that Andy Cohen took great pleasure in making fun of her with his comments during his late-night talk show Watch What Happens Live. She also alleges that he conspired with fellow executive producer and host Jeff Lewis to cast her as someone who didn’t take anything seriously. A Breakdown of NeNe’s Allegations
While on Watch What Happens Live, host Andy Cohen was asked to confirm whether or not NeNe had filed a lawsuit against him. Although he didn’t want to get into details, he did reveal that there were court documents filed.
NeNe’s name and according to an individual close to production, they do indeed include allegations of defamation. He continued: She’s not suing me personally…I don’t think it’s a secret that she hasn’t liked me for some time.
But what is NeNe upset about? According to documents obtained by TMZ, she’s taking issue with comments made by both Andy and her fellow cast members. Her biggest complaint seems to be a joke she feels crossed a line when Kim Zolciak-Biermann brought up how someone from her home state of Georgia referred to her as Black White Trash.
NeNe has also accused several other cast members of defamation of sharing information about things like salary disputes, but all those claims have been thrown out. Finally, at least one source claims that one person on set allegedly referred to her as being homophobic.
